The International Baccalaureate (IB) is a globally recognized education framework designed to develop inquiring, knowledgeable, and compassionate learners. It emphasizes holistic development and prepares students for a rapidly changing world.
The Primary Years Programme (PYP) is an inquiry-based, student-centered educational framework designed for young learners. It follows global themes that help students connect their learning to real-world experiences—at school, at home, and in the wider world. The PYP nurtures curiosity, critical thinking, and international-mindedness.
At VIVA, the IB PYP is implemented from Reception to Grade 5 as an authorized programme.
In Grades 6 and 7, IB skills continue to be emphasized, but the assessment and exam pattern align with the CBSE curriculum.
The PYP curriculum is structured around six transdisciplinary themes, known as Units of Inquiry, which encourage exploration and knowledge construction:
- Who We Are
- Where We Are in Place and Time
- How We Express Ourselves
- How The World Works
- How We Organize Ourselves
- Sharing The Planet
PYP students engage in six key subject areas: Physical & Social Personal Education (PSPE): Swimming, Football, Basketball, Throwball, Kho-Kho, Athletics, Table Tennis, and Skating.
- Languages: English, Hindi, Telugu, and Spanish (for Grades 4 and 5)
- Mathematics

Yes, students use reference books as learning aids. These books support students in their inquiry-based learning and provide guidance for parents to assist their children at home.
IB PYP follows a student-centered, inquiry-based approach to learning. Teachers use interactive methods, group activities, and play-based strategies to ensure a smooth transition. Since learning is collaborative and engaging, students quickly adapt and enjoy the process.
IB PYP assessments focus on conceptual understanding and skill development rather than memorization.
- Formative Assessments: Ongoing assessments help teachers track student progress and refine teaching strategies.
- Summative Assessments: Conducted at the end of each Unit of Inquiry(every six weeks), these evaluate students’ comprehension of key concepts.
At the end of Grade 5, students receive an IB PYP Completion Certificate, recognizing their learning journey in the IB Primary Years Programme.
Since the PYP curriculum is structured around six transdisciplinary themes, we conduct six Parent-Teacher Meetings (PTMs) throughout the academic year to provide detailed feedback on students’ progress.
Yes, all PYP teachers undergo mandatory professional development led by certified IB workshop leaders. Regular in-school training ensures they are well-equipped to implement IB teaching methodologies effectively.
